The New Features Guide (Windows) contains information
on new features in all of the new versions of OnTime for
Windows:
* OnTime for Windows (Stand Alone)
* OnTime for Windows (Stand Alone with
Reconciliation)
* OnTime for Networks (Windows and DOS).
Not all of the new features are supported in all of the
new versions of OnTime. You should check the lists
starting on page 1-4 to determine which of the new
features pertain to your copy of OnTime.
These new versions of OnTime provide many new
features that should help you automate some routine
activities and help you keep track of your calendar.
Many of these new features are designed to keep you in
touch with your calendar even when you are away from
OnTime.
How to use this manual
======================
Refer to the checklists below to see which of the new
features pertain to the different OnTime packages:
OnTime for Windows (Stad Alone), OnTime for
Windows (Stand Alone with Reconciliation) and OnTime
for Networks (Windows and DOS).
In the following lists, the * denotes a feature included in
that version of OnTime, while a * denotes a feature that
is not included in that version of OnTime.
For additional information on any of the features
included in the following lists, refer to the New features
list on page 1-7. And, for complete information on any
of the features, refer to the chapter devoted to that
feature.
The following features pertain to OnTime for Windows
stand alone users.
* AT&T PassageWay Solution support.
* Palmtop support.
* Pager support.
* Printing enhancements.
* Sound wave support.
New features list
==================
The following list will provide a brief description of each
of the new features. A subset of the following features
will be included in the new versions of OnTime. Most of
these features require additional hardware and software
that must be purchased separately from the OnTime
software. The exact requirements for each of these
features is provided in the corresponding chapter in this
manual.
AT&T PassageWay Solution support
(Refer to DIALER.TXT)
By providing PassageWay support, OnTime can
now automatically dial phone numbers that you
type into the Message or Note of an OnTime
Appointment or Non-Appointment. You will find
this particularly helpful if many of your daily
activities revolve around making phone calls.
Palmtop support
(Refer to IMPEXP.TXT)
This version of OnTime now supports several Palmtop
computers. Simply export your OnTime Appointments to
the Palmtop so that you can keep track of, and modify, your
calendar even when you are away from your
copy of OnTime.
Pager support
(Refer to PAGER.TXT)
You can now have OnTime page
you each time one of your alarms rings when you
are away from your copy of OnTime. This
feature is designed to remind you of your
scheduled appointments regardless of where you
are.
Printing enhancements
(Refer to PRINT.TXT)
OnTime is now able to print all of its standard printouts
on special organizer paper designed to be inserted into 5╜"
x 8╜" and 3╛" x 6╛" size binders like Franklin
Day Planner«, Day-Timer« and DayRunner«.
In addition, this version of OnTime provides you
with some additional printout customization
options.
As you can see, these new features are all designed to
either automate your daily tasks or make your OnTime
calendar more accessible. This manual devotes a
separate chapter to each of the above mentioned
features. Please refer to these chapters for complete
information about these time and effort saving features.
In addition to the features listed above, this manual will
also discuss the following feature:
Sound wave support
(Refer to WAVE.TXT)
In addition to the alarm sounds that OnTime provides,
OnTime can now support third-party sound wave (.WAV) files.
This means that you are no longer limited to the
12 different alarm sounds shipped with OnTime.
Terms
=====
Throughout this guide we use certain terms with which
you should become familiar. Understanding these terms
is important and we suggest that you spend a few
moments reviewing them.
Palmtop
A Palmtop computer is a small computer
roughly the size of a calculator. Although Palmtops do
not provide all the facilities offered by full size
computers, they do provide calendars, address books
and other commonly used utilities.
Sound wave (.WAV) files
Sound wave (.WAV) files provide a wide range of sounds
and tunes that may be used in place of OnTime's
standard alarm tunes.
Notation
========
Throughout this guide we use certain notation with
which you should become familiar. The notation is
important because it details the format of the
instructions that you should follow, or represents special
information of which you should be aware.
We suggest that you spend a few moments reviewing
the notation described here to ensure that you are able to
follow the instructions in this manual correctly.
Typing information
------------------
In different areas throughout this guide, you will be
instructed to type information. In some cases, you will
decide what information should be typed, in other cases,
we will instruct you to type specific information.
When we tell you to type specific information, the text
you are required to type will appear in UPPER CASE
characters. Unless otherwise specified, you may actually
type the information using upper or lower case
characters or a combination of the two.
When you are instructed to type specific information,
you should type that information exactly as it appears
here (with the exception of case). This means that you
should include blank spaces exactly as they appear in the
original model.
Selecting menu options
----------------------
In the course of working with OnTime, you will be
instructed to select menu options, in which case both the
option, and the menu on which it appears will be bold.
For Example:
Select Appointment Settings... from the Options menu.
When you are instructed to select a menu option, you
should be aware that selecting a menu option entails
highlighting that option (using the arrow keys), and then
pressing the <Enter> key, or clicking the menu option
with the mouse.
Pressing keys
-------------
You will also encounter instances in which you will be
instructed to press certain function keys. Within the
context of this manual a function key is defined as any of
the following:
* <Esc>, <Tab> and <Enter>
* <F1> through <F12>
* <Insert>, <Delete>, <Home> and <End>
* <Ctrl>, <Shift>, <Alt>
* <*>, <*>, <*> and <*>
All function keys that you are instructed to press will be
enclosed in <angle brackets>.
For Example:
Press <Tab> to move the focus to the ....
Special information
-------------------
This manual recognizes three different categories of
special information:
Important!
Information that is classified as important is
crucial information that is necessary to the
successful completion of the task at hand. Be
sure to read and act on this information.
Note:
Information that is classified as a note represents
additional helpful information. Although this
information is not crucial to the success of a
particular action, we feel that you will find it
useful.
For Example:
Throughout this manual we provide you with
examples to illustrate the information and
instructions provided. Examples will always be
treated as special information to differentiate
them from the surrounding information.
Note:
All special information will be separated from the
surrounding text by rules above and below the
information, as demonstrated here.
Proper names
------------
Proper names will be displayed in italics. This includes
references to:
* OnTime terms (Day Planner, Week Grid, etc.).
* Dialog titles and field names (Appointment
Settings dialog, Alarm Tune text area, etc.).
* Name of this guide or of sections or chapters in it
(Chapter 1: Introduction, etc.).
This feature does not require any additional hardware or
software, but you must provide the Avery Dennison or
DayRunner paper that you intend to use.
